Welcome Summer 2010 Class!

This course is about the what's happening now and what's going to happen in the future. It's about a room full of people sharing and learning together. This class is about learning to seek out answers for yourself. And like so much in life you will get out of it - knowledge and skills - what you put in - attention and effort. This is not a passive class. Please follow the class.

Lab #1:

1. Go to Twitter.com and create an account or use one you already have (if you want). Send the account address (http://twitter.com/kempedmomds) or username to kemp_edmonds@bcit.ca

Do you know what a URL shortener is? Did you know that it will track the number of people who click it, what country they clicked it from and sometimes detailed information on what they were using when they clicked it.

2. Go to j.mp and either create an account or get familiar with the program. We will discuss it sooner rather than later if you have any questions about it during lab please ask the instructor at the front of the room.

3. Each week you will be required to Tweet at least 4 items. You can do as much or as little tweeting outside of these required messages as you like but these tweets will represent a total of 20% of your final grade. These tweets are about research more than homework so have fun with it and find things that you think would interest the rest of the class.

NOTE - Tweets must contain:
  • A title or comment on the article included as a short link
  • A shortened link to articles of interest to you and related to current or future trends
  • #MDIA4010 @BCIT
This is going to be a fun and interesting class for all of us and with your help this will be the best class any of us have ever been a part of. Please view the video below and utilize some of the techniques explained:
